The Need

When families encounter tragedy, we support them, with love. The Christina Grimmie Foundation exists to support families who have lost a loved one to gun violence. The Foundation provides tangible services to help families encountering this area of hardship, so that they may focus their energy on healing, rather than finances or household duties.

GUN VIOLENCE VICTIMS SUPPORT

To create a community of empathy and support for families affected by the devastating effects of gun violence. The Christina Grimmie Foundation believes that supporting the families of gun violence victims would have been incredibly important to Christina. One of the greatest responsibilities we can ask of ourselves and others is to care for families who feel overwhelmed with grief and burden.

Important Statistics

A few days after Christina went home to be with the Lord, a law enforcement officer spoke with us. He told us that he’s seen many families fall apart after tragedies, often succumbing to divorce, estrangement, and substance abuse. Considering this when looking at the statistics gives a staggering glance at the lives impacted by gun violence.

11,000+

deaths as a result of murder or manslaughter involving a firearm in 2016

49x

young Americans (ages 15 to 24) are 49x more likely to die by gunfire than their peers in other high-income countries

99.85%

of Americans will know a victim of gun violence in their lifetime

Stories of need

The circumstances by which we serve families impacted by gun violence is unfortunate.  However, the heart of our organization is to help these families get through a difficult time by giving them a bit of hope and making sure they know that they are not alone in this journey.  Because green was Christina’s favorite color and our logo is anchored with a heart, we affectionately refer to those we serve as “Green Hearts” instead of calling them clients.

  • Green Heart #1 – A father of three lost his wife, a loving mother in a close knit family. We provided support to help ease their initial financial burden after the shooting and provide support for the children. Bud and Mark Grimmie personally connected with this father to provide encouragement during his time of grief.
  • Green Heart #2 – A mother lost her husband in an unfortunate shooting incident.  During her early time of grief, she did not accept any assistance offered from others. When times became challenging months later, the foundation supported her with child care expenses to allow this mother to restart her life and time to transition into the workplace.

How we can help

The Christina Grimmie Foundation remains committed to supporting families of gun violence victims, so that they can focus on rebuilding their lives after the loss of a loved one.

Our goal is to honor the victims and to support their families by offering tangible services to help them while they face the aftermath. The Foundation fosters a community of support, receives donations, organizes fundraising events, and works directly with the the families to provide services and a support system.
